What comes to mind when you hear the word yoga? Well, if you think of people in seemingly impossibly poses, then you may have an inkling of what yoga is- an inkling! Yoga comes from the Sanskrit word “yuj” which means to “unite or integrate”. Yoga then is about the union of the body, mind and spirit and practiced through exercises (poses), breathing and meditation.\r\n\r\nMany people approach yoga initially as away to achieve a better body or keep fit and that is perfectly alright! Yoga teachers will often refer to “your practice” which means your individual experience with yoga as it develops over time. The amazing thing about yoga is that your practice is always evolving and changing so it never gets boring. Although the poses themselves do not change, your relationship to them will with practice.\r\n\r\nAnyone can start a yoga practice, even if you feel you are not very flexible or strong. These things will develop over time. There is a noncompetitive element of yoga so learning to let go of your ego and accepting yourself as you are today, can be life changing!\r\n\r\nSo what’s holding you back from stepping into a yoga class today? All you have to lose is physical and mental stress, tight muscles and possibly a few pounds! Check out the wide variety of yoga classes we have to offer.
